Climate: will it heat enough?

The winter design temperature is the one your winter stays above 97.5% of the time: it is what sizes a heating system. ZERO systems are ENERGY STAR Cold Climate certified and heat down to −30 °C.

−32 °CBrandonbackup advised on extreme nights · National Building Code / NRCan
Verdict: in Manitoba, the design temperature dips below −30 °C on some nights. A ZERO is still the main and cheapest heat source, but keep a backup (baseboards, furnace) for the few coldest days and size up one step.

Standard or DIY for the rebate?

Programs in Manitoba generally require installation by a contractor licensed in the province. To get a rebate, choose the Standard version and have a local technician install it; they will give you the required invoice. The DIY version remains the best pick for a cottage, garage or room addition without a rebate. Kanartic’s in-home commissioning is offered in Quebec only.
